So what do I mean by the brand behind the brand?
By seeing "brands" we believe as consumers that this gives us "choice". Well what if one brand provided the choice in terms of varying instruments, styles, pickup configurations and so on. Are you better off having a number of "brands" supplying the same style of instruments or one brand providing you with a broad array of options? The answer would be that it would depend on how GOOD that one brand was in the first place!
So how good is Cort?
Ask Fender, Tanglewood, Ibanez, Schecter and other "leading" brands all of whom have at some point utilised Cort manufacturing to maintain/build their own quality branding. Tanglewood is a great example. For 10 years Tanglewood guitars were made by Cort - this was the 10 year period that cemented their reputation as a leading mid range acoustic brand (and rightly so as Cort guitars ARE that good!).
Cort is possibly the most highly regarded/respected manufacturer of guitars in the Far East. As a brand name, if you want to provide the best instruments you go to Cort to have them made (with your name on!).
Hopefully now you are starting to understand the phrase "the brand behind the brand". If you are buying a "brand name" made in the Cort factory expect to pay at least 20% more for the branded product.
So don't be a Lemming! Don't just buy your next guitar because your mates got one or you have been brainwashed by glossy adverts - buy your next guitar based on gettting the most instrument per pound spent. Surely this makes sense?
The great news is that once you do start looking at the Cort range you will see just how great these instruments are and how cool it is to have a mind of your own. In 13 years specialising in guitar advice Cort has been the brand that impresses me time and time again in all genres of guitar production. Not so surprising then that Cort IS the brand behind the brand. |
