I've never really listened to him as I'm not a great fan of purely instrumental guitar..although it's growing on me.

How come the resin body thing hasn't been picked up by more manufacturers? I'm assuming it's not all good (e.g. not a perfect alternative to tone woods), or it is a purist/traditionalist thing?

I must admit I am partial to a bit of Vai. I remember seeing the guitar Legends concert on the TV (Expo '92 from Seville I think) that introduced me to both Satriani and Vai.

I was amazed that the guitar could be played like that.

Seen him live a few times, both solo tours and part of the G3 package and he's always floored me. Great to see someone so in control of their instrument.

Of course it's self indulgent, but I've never had a problem with that.

Expo 92, Seville, your right...That was the very thing that got me into these guys too! Wasnt there a documentary as part of that expo where that got a flamenco guitar virtuoso to play an electric guitar for the first time...was amazing to see/ hear!!!

Joe Walsh, Brian May and Nuno Bettencourt also featured, but to be honest I have never really got into the latter two, not knocking their ability, just not my thing!

It was that Expo 92 that totally inspired me and got me right back into guitar playing big time. Satriani and Vai were an inspiration - was always upset that if I remember right Nuno just did the cheasy acoustic set yet their Pornografiti Album was just amazing (in a very 90s rock way!). The whole series was totally inspirational.
