* What is your current amp? Laney VC30 * How much did you pay? about £500, but they come A LOT cheaper now [£300-350] * How long have you had it? 3 years * What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? All environments! It deffinitely suffers in hot nightclubs packed with people and lights. It has had a tendency to blow a fuse in these situations, but that's just cause it's running hot. * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons
Well, about a year after i bought it the HT fuse kept blowing, and i was getting a crackling/clunking sound through the speakers, signalling it was time replace the output valves (cheap stock TADs). I bought a set of Harma EL84s from Watford Valves, only to find find that Laney had wired the amp only to accept cheap chinese valves (Pin 1 had been wired as the HT junction [i.e. isolated from the other pins], whereas the new Harmas had Pins 1 & 2 connected so that 300V was being presented to the grid). So I opened up the amp, and lifted all four HT junctions off pin 1 and onto pin 8. This worked a treat, but unfortunately meant that the amp was running hot, and has worn down the valves in about a year. I'm now faced with replacing all four output valves again, but this time i'll have to add smoothing resistors in to curb the voltage going through the valves.
It's a fantastic amp, hence the reason i'm willing to put so much time and money into it, the clean sound sparkles, and it dirties up nicely, but if you need something to rely 100% on, it's probably not your ideal amp.

What is your current amp? Orange Rocker 30 Combo and Tiny Terror Head/1x12 cab * How much did you pay? #600/300/190 * How long have you had it? 10/22/22 months * What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? Home, practice studio and stage * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? Rocker combo developed microphonic valves very quickly, but replaced them and no problems since.
I play a Les Paul Standard, and the combination through Orange amps, especially the bridge pickup, is fantastic.

No gigs on it yet. * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? Bulletproof construction. In fact, over-engineered, I think.
* What is your current amp? Roland JC77 * How much did you pay? £100 used * How long have you had it? 6-7 years * What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? All three * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? Reverb problem. Speakers on the way out. Intermittent buzz. But has never cut out entirely, despite some abuse.
* What is your current amp? Traynor ycv40 * How much did you pay? £425 new * How long have you had it? 6 years * What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? All three * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? Standby blew out and took something with it. Repairman still trying to figure it out. As soon as it's fixed, it's going.
* What is your current amp? Laney VC50 (gone some time ago..) * How much did you pay? About £600 in 1995 * How long have you had it? Had it until 2001 * What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? N/a * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? Channel switching went haywire a few times.
* What is your current amp? Tech 21 Trademark 60 * How much did you pay? £500 * How long have you had it? 2001-2002 * What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? n/a * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? Nope. Was very reliable while I had it. Changed it for tonal/practicality reasons.
