* What is your current amp? Hiwatt Custom 20 (Audio Brothers model) * How much did you pay? £650 * How long have you had it? Ten years * What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? Studio and pub gigs * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? It once had to have its pots cleaned but otherwise it's as solid as a rock (and built using similar technology, to boot).

I'll stick to the ones other people could buy new- my experience with a 1970s Fender Twin and an '80s HH amp isn't any use to you.
* What is your current amp? Cornell Romany Plus
* How much did you pay? £725
* How long have you had it? Around 2 years.
* What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? It's mostly home use at the moment, but it has been used for studio recording, and has been regularly gigged.
* Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? No. It needed re-valving after a year or so, but that's what happens when you run a small amp flat out for band rehearsals and gigs regularly. I love it. Cornell isn't really in the price bracket you're looking for though...
* What is your current amp? Epiphone Valve Junior
* How much did you pay? £85
* How long have you had it? 3 years(ish)
* What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? Has been used at home, and on stage. No studio use, because...
* Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? It's not a breakdown, as such, but the amp has a high level of background buzz- it's far too much for studio use, and it's annoying at home. It's drowned out enough at gigs. Apparently it's insufficiently grounded, but it's an early model, and the later ones fixed the problem. At one gig, the amp stopped passing any signal and started squealing. Fortunately, I was running it alongside the Cornell, so I turned it off and finished up with just one amp. It's never done it since.

* What is your current amp? peavey royal 8 * How much did you pay? 99 quid * How long have you had it? couple of months * What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? the back shed - no heating, smokey atmosphere * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? changed the output el84 to jj from sovtek provided, warmed up the sound nicely; added socket for external speaker as i'd quickly begun to dislike the standard 8" speaker

* What is your current amp? sound city 50 plus (c1973) * How much did you pay? hundred eighty pounds (or was it 280) * How long have you had it? seven years * What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)? various sheds and garages - no heating, smokey atmosphere * Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons? bad output transformer when i bought it, subsequently replaced with partridge transformer, recappd and bias reset on output valves

* What is your current amp?
Cornford Hurricane.
* How much did you pay?
£1200.
* How long have you had it?
Couple of years now.
* What environment is it normally played (IE home, studio, stage)?
Mostly at home for fun and occasional recording.
* Has it gone wrong - if so how many times and what reasons?
Needed a replacement preamp valve once. Otherwise flawless. I've not played any of the new cornford roadhouse amps but they're considerably cheaper than the regular versions and might be worth your consideration.

What is your current amp?. Vox AD100VT
How much did you pay?. £175
How long have you had it? 2 years
What environment is it normally played? Home/Gig/Rehearsal
Has it gone wrong? Not so far
Apparently there were some reliability issues with the ADxxVT range, however mine has been perfect so far, used regularly with no problems, Also this range has now been replaced by the newer VT-30/50/100 etc, hopefully some of the reliability issues people may have experienced will have been addressed in the new models.

Laney TF50.
Swapped for an older Bandit got a new guitar stand included.
Original price £165.00
10 years old.
Low imput needs a refit.
Have gigged it, loaned it out as use it as a home practice amp.
I tried this amp in a music shop in Lowestoft and the clean channel was an improvement on the Peavey Bandit. The owner agreed to a straight swap. It was surprisingly loud for it's size and so far have not had any repairs done. It could do with a good once over to clean all the pots out and replace the low imput which is intermittent.
I will be replacing it for gigging with a Laney VC30 2x12 (Would like some comments on this amp) sometime next year when I am going out to gig again.

What is your current amp?. Peavey JSX 120 Head
How much did you pay?. £1000
How long have you had it? 1 year
What environment is it normally played? Gigs and Rehearsals Twice Weakly
Has it gone wrong? So far so good, seems solid, built in the USA, know that the power tubes will need replacing over the next 12 months though...but thats just standard usage and you accept that with tube amps.
