i do wonder what determines left handedness, and indeed right handedness, is it your upbringing, or just muscles on one side being slightly different? anyone?

Well not that much. She's actually RH now, as a result! Actually I lie she's ambi, but writes with her RH.

Well, I've looked into this a little. It's partly hereditry (my brother is also LH, meaning 50% of my parents children were LH).
I think it's also nurture too, but less these days, as children are "allowed" to be left handed.

When I coach shooters, it's "eye-dominance" that is the problem. Often I get left-handers who are right-eye dominant and it causes all sorts of problems until they learn to shoot the "other" way round.
it's something to do with neural pathways and musculature I think Andy...

Of course, the way your brain works as a consequence of being RH or LH is totally different (you use the opposite side of your brain apparently), but it seems genetics are the likely cause for determining which hand is dominant....

Yeah, I did read that this was mainly because LH guitars were still something of a rarity (no change there), and Hendrix thought they would be of lesser quality or something?!?

I think it comes from the mothers side. My mother was left handed as was her mother. Both me and my brother are left handed but my daughter is right handed (her mother was right handed)
Yeah - def mothers side. Did I tell you about my mum's sister?

Yeh, seeing as he tended to need new guitars after most shows I think he pretty good at swapping the strings/nut/saddles around on the bus before a gig- in those days I imagine it was even worse trying to get consistent quality/availability on leftys..
