Hi All

Thanks for your previous advise regarding choice of an effects unit.

I now have a better idea of what I am looking for, which is a phrase trainer (is that the correct term ? or should it be looper ?) function – the ability to record sections of a song and repeatedly play it back at a slower speed without changing the pitch. I have a collection of teaching CDs from books and magazines which are still a little bit fast for me to effectively follow.

So far I have narrowed down the search to two units, perhaps you can provide some advise or suggest alternatives.

Digitech RP355 – about 160 UKP

Pros.
Floor mounted unit operated with three foot switches and an expression peddle, hence I could stop/start pause the music sample without taking my hands off the guitar.

Cons.
It records a maximum of 10 seconds, is this enough to be useful and slows it down by up to 25%.

Korg Pandora PX4D – about 100 UKP

Pros.
It can record up to 30 seconds and slows down to 50%.

Cons.
Light hand held/ table mounted/belt mounted unit operated with buttons and wheels, so would have to take my hands off the guitar to stop/start/pause etc.

Any advise, as I wrote above, the primary purpose is as a phrase trainer to help me learn more complex music, then a drum machine to learn timing and finally the effects for fun.

Hope you can help with advise.

Paul

Have you thought of trying a software based phrase trainer, like BestPractise first?

Its free and will give you far more flexibility than the other two options, except footswitch control, obviously.

Depending on how you get on you can then decide if you need it in your effects pedal.

Thanks

I have just downloaded BestPractise , will give it a go to get some idea of what I want is useful.

At 50% speed the sound is a bit wobbly, but that might be my computer.

Many effects peddles appear to have a phrase loop capable of recording around 30 seconds or more of music, although no mention of altering the playback speed.

If I could use something like best practise to record a slowed down version of a lick for my mp3 player, I could then load the slowed down version onto a peddle with a phrase loop ?

Sorry

Might I append my above query, will any of the available effects units, e.g. a Boss ME-25, actually record from the Aux input (an mp3 player) or are they limited to recording input from the guitar.

Thanks
