Slade and Jeff Beck I could take or leave for an "essential albums" collection (individual tracks, sure, but not a whole album). Bowie, on the other hand...

Hunky Dory
Ziggy Stardust
Heroes
Low

...all need to go on the list.

Truly seminal. All the licks slavishly copied by the Les Paul guitar gods of the 60s, igniting the whole rock ethos.

If I were a teenager again I would still plumb for Black Sabbath Vol 4 it changed the way I thought about music.

However with the benefit of more trips around the Sun completed I would struggle. So as Vol 4 was my first choice I'll stay with that one.

Some really great choices are already listed here. I'd add:

Johnny Cash live at San Quentin/Folsom
Night Train - Oscar Peterson Trio

I've got thousands but if alien invaders came to steal them I'd ask them to leave The Chess Box Set because that's all I need. They would nod their appendages in sage agreement and would be so impressed that the invasion would be called off.

Largely agree but "Inside In/Inside Out" insteaad of Konk, plus "Hats Off to the Buskers" The View.

I bought the "Chess Chartbusters" series of CDs last year- all six volumes of it. That stuff is soooooo good
