I agree- I tried the VC15 when I was last out amp shopping a few years ago and really liked it. The only reason I didn't buy one was that I had a fair bit more money to play with and ended up with a Cornell Romany Plus, which I really really liked.

The fact that I had to go to a hand-built "boutique" amp to find something I liked better might say something for the Laney.

I don't know whether it's up to the task of gigging without some help from the PA and/or an extension cab, but for home use it ought to work fine, and it looks fantastic too!

Laney have a website were you can see the VC15 in action, or is it the bigger 30 watter? Anyway have a look. The newer prism range looks good for home use too. Lots of features.

Do you think the Laney would be up for gigging?

I've used mine for 3 years of gigging. Usually with an mic into a PA. I play pretty clean though- if you ran it dirty it might be ok. Depends how loud your drummer is! tbh, I would recommend running AN amp into a PA for playing live...

I don't think the blackstar is much different volume wise.

Gigging is subjecive, For a small venue I would say yes but if you are competing with a loud drummer an another guitarist with say a 50 or 100 watt stack the VC30 would be better. Average price is £465.00 though.

However if the VC15 is miked up that would help a lot.

You'd really need something in the order of about 30 watts from a valve amp if you wanted to be able to compete with a drummer and maintain a clean-ish sound without help from the PA and monitor speakers.

If you don't mind some distortion (or even a lot!) you probably don't need quite that much power, and more speakers will produce more volume- a 2x12" amp will probably seem louder than a 1x12" amp with the same power rating. Of course, more speakers means a bigger cabinet, and the two generally add up to a more expensive amp.

Id say Peavy amps are well worth a look, But dont be frightened to find a 2nd Hand amp. It may take more hunting but you can find a nice gem for a good price if you look hard enough!

If you're playing Indie, You would probably be best looking for an amp with good clean and Overdriven sounds (don't be confused with Distorted). If you can find an AC-15 or somthing close i think you'll be very happy.
