Let's ROCK.......

After the success of the forum blues jam, we're going to have a go at something rockier this time.

Backing is HERE

Backing is pretty rough at the moment just to get us going.

First 8 bars in A major is an intro, then the fun begins.

There follows 8 bars of B major then 8 bars of A major. This is you're chance to rock out. Solo for these 16 bars then post up at the same place as the backing track.

You can either post up your solo in isolation AND a version combined with the backing for syncing purposes, OR copy the square wave at the start of the backing onto your isolated track at the same point and I'll sync from that. (cheers Davebass)

Any questions?
Happy rocking \:\)

I downloaded it earlier. Haven't tried to play along yet but sure I'll come up with something.

I should have time at the weekend. So count me in.

I think people warm to blues much more readily. I just wish I had the energy to get involved. Life is so hectic.... 3 young kids, the shop and the Guitars.co.uk project. DOH!! Wish I had 3 lives sometimes.

If someone can explain to me in very basic terms what the hell you have to do to join in I could do an email shot to forum users and my mailing list - maybe get some interest brewing.

So whoever is pushing this, email me the basics and I will try and get some people involved for you.

Let me know if I can help as I for one cant wait to listen to the results!

Good luck (but you may find blues the easiest to crack).

Title may be a bit misleading, Deliberately kept it on the lighter side of rock. It's possible to play the relative minor pentatonics, ie G#min and F#min and your bluesy stuff will work quite nicely. I'll mail you details in the a.m. Richard. Thanks for your help.

Will run with this one now and see how we go. Look forward to hearing what English Bob and Col come up with.

My initial thoughts (characteristically pessimistic) were:

1. Faster tempo = more difficult

2. Unfamiliar chord sequence = more difficult (yes, it's dead simple, but that was my SECOND thought...)

3. Style leans more towards guitar pyrotechnics = more difficult / more pressure.

4. Great drum sound!

1, 2 and 3 might account for your slightly lower turnout so far. That and the generally high quality of the contributions to the blues jam... and that's before you consider all the personal stuff that might get in people's way.

...like how I could really use a new set of strings before I tackle this

Cheers for the feedback English Bob,

1. Faster tempo = more difficult

Not necessarily. To anybody who's put off, thinking it's too hard, give it a go, you might be surprised, and will definitely improve as a player/ improviser

2. Unfamiliar chord sequence = more difficult (yes, it's dead simple, but that was my SECOND thought...)

see above

3. Style leans more towards guitar pyrotechnics = more difficult / more pressure.

Again try the relative minor pentatonic starting on the root (b then a respectively). Shredding arpeggios will work, but so will wailing on a sweet note.
4. Great drum sound!

Thanks. I used an old Charlie Morgan sample CD with lots of loops. They sound ace

I could have easily posted another blues in Am, but that would have been boring. This was a response to the chat in the other thread about trying something a bit different.
Even if it just ends up with English Bob, Col and me, then I'm fine with that. I just love recording, but find it difficult to motivate myself to do it for myself. These jams get me sitting down at the computer with the guitar in my hand, so I'm happy whatever happens.

so to sum up, give it a go.

My first thought on hearing the backing was "eek, what the hell am I going to play!"

But that's good as I need to be stretched and tested. I've probably not really progressed as a player in years, just more comfortable playing what I do play. So something like this is great to try and get out of a very comfy rut!

Oh, I completely agree with all your points, just thinking out loud about why people might not be on board.

FWIW, some of the best solos are the simplest, a particular favourite of mine being Mick Ronson's on "Moonage Daydream" on Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album. So few notes, so much win

Agreed. Find this hard in practice though
