Hey Dave, it's almost all here now.
I wasn't sure about the watt rating for the resistor so thanks for assuring me that's all good.
Just waiting on the 5 way switch and the TBX pot to arrive from Arizona ,lol. I now have some copper screening, 2 metres of 22 awg poly wire which isn't shielded itself maybe I should hunt some shielded wire out somewhere, a CTS 500k pot and a handful or capacitors, hopefully the switch will get here soon and I can dive in and see what I can make of it.

New question, this thread is amazing by the way...
100K resisters are available at Maplins for £0.24p. On the Squier Strat the 0.001 capacitor gets very bright as I turn down the volume. The recommendation is to use a 100K resistor. The question is what is the best way to fit it? paralell or inline? Or does it make no difference as to which way it is loaded?

For the treble bleed I would put in a strong vote for the parallel option - that's what I've used on all my Guitars, and I find the tone seems pretty even over the full range of the volume control.
By the way though, I should say that some people don't like the resistor in parallel with the cap because it will also have the effect of changing the taper of the volume pot. In my case I like the change though - it makes the taper a little less steep, so that you need to turn the control a little more to get the same drop in volume. I find this works great with a log taper pot - you end up with a taper kind of inbetween a linear taper and a log taper, which I find to be about ideal.

The quest for those little nuances continues...
I find it quite amazing at gigs when watching guitarists, they seem to fall into two basic camps. Those that twiddle to get the right volume and those who play flat out all the time. The latter don't realise the fun they can have going from a nice soft quiet lead tone to one that can melt you face off in one flick of a switch.

I love using the volume knob as you would a volume pedal, making all those cat like miaowing noises.
An old guy said to me once 'you should always keep an inch back for yourself', I have no idea what he was talking about but I think he meant play at volume 9 and you'll always have a surprise up your sleeve. PS I bought 100 resistors for 99p on e-bay,not fitted any yet though.

Loads of big stars have duplicate stage boards and stuff behind the scenes for somebody else to operate. One could be forgiven for thinking we're being conned somehow but that's a whole new thread.
The exfactory programs and such for example, have made live music very suspicious with the big names miming their stuff. That should outlawed because it's like false advertising. Again a whole new thread...

What you can do in a home studio is pretty stunning,I'd hate to think what would be possible if you had a real professional studio with huge amounts of processing power and ram.
I guess at the end of the day if the music isn't in you it ain't gonna come out either.
