I'm going to replace the socket on my bass (active washburn bantam series 4-string).
The thing is, it's got a stereo 1/4" jack socket just now - do you think I can replace that with a mono. I don't see why not... the second contact is touching the same bit of the plug as the casing part of the socket.
Currently the red wire goes to the tip, then there are two black wires to the other contacts - one going toward the battery in the guitar, and the second to the circuit board.
Anyone have any thoughts on whether a mono will do? Cheers

[Re: JonathanKu]
Gotta be stereo, unless the bass has a separate on/off switch for the active circuitry. Usually the spare pin on an active system is used to switch the circuitry on when you plug in and off when you unplug (which is why you have to unplug after putting the guitar back in the rack or the batteries will drain). Again, doesn't matter if you have a separate on/off switch for the active circuitry somewhere on the face of the bass, in which case a mono jack can be used.

+1. The stereo socket is actually working as a power switch. This scheme is very common with effects pedals too. The only justification is to save the cost of a switch (cheapskates!).
