Although I'm not generally in favour of assassination, it does have its points in certain cases: those where a particular individual is responsible for a lot of death and suffering. For example, if Saddam Hussein had been assassinated, rather than Iraq being invaded, it would have saved an awful lot of (a) bloodshed, (b) expense, (c) time. But who knows how it would have turned out in the long run.
There are no end of things that are illegal or immoral that would, on the face of it, be directly beneficial to us (speeding gets us where we need to go more quickly... ). Given that most of the problems we encountered in Iraq were to do with the multitude of people who attempted to seize power in the vacuum left by Saddam, I don't know whether his assassination would have made things any better.

The general comment I get about the situation here, when spoken about, is "You all must drop your weapons and sit and talk". For me, comments like these show big lack of knowledge (there's a good reason for why there's a doctorate in Middle East studies). So explain to me how people all over the rest of the world with opposing goals, cultures, religious beliefs etc. DO manage to sit down and resolve their problems with diplomacy rather than mortars and bulldozers? It seems to me to show just as great a lack of understanding to say "we're different, we can't talk to each other, we've just got to kill each other to solve our problems". It's not as though Hamas fell out of space six weeks ago and started hating Israel- there's a long and complex history to the conflict in which both sides have given each other ample reason to hate the other, I know, but if the shoe were on the other foot- a high-profile Israeli had been killed, or you were a Palestinian- I'm sure you wouldn't be quite so disgustingly glib about a man's murder.
I get your point. I think I didn't explained myself as I wanted. Of course peace will only be achieved during peace talks and not wars. I do not belive in "wars that make peace". There is no doubt that the suffering Palestinians will have their own country at last. But in the meantime, the led by terror organization which do not recognize Israel. Peace, of course, can not be made with it. That's only what's goning on inside of Israel. Up north there is Syria, Iran's closest friend. A bit west you have the Hizbullah - a tool also used by Iran to harm Israel from a closer range. Putting our weapons down, right now, means nothing but letting them wipe us out of the map. "A Middle East without Zionists is the 'Divine Promise’" - Ahmadinejad, today (http://www.nowlebanon.com/NewsArticleDetails.aspx?ID=149128). I can assure you - there is no Israeli alive who doesn't want this conflict to be resolved already. But peace between Israel and the Palestinians must first be approved by Syria. And syria won't wink without Iran's approval. And Iran.. - Come on. Even the greatest nations in the world can't make manage with Iran right now. So tell me, does people all over the rest of the world with opposing goals, cultures, religious beliefs etc. deal with THESE kinds of isuues? If Obama, Brown, Putin, and every other leader can't sit and talk with Iran - How can we? And don't get it wrong - nothing, absolutely nothing, won't happen between Israel and the Palestinians without Iran and Syria's approval.
This issue does bring up some emotions. Nothing is personal between us, eh?
