Hi,

I currently have a 100watt Marshall dsl jcm2000 head and cab but I am wanting to get a combo amp.

I play gigs alot but the venues always have good pa's so I'm thinking something around 50watts will be ok as I only get to 3 on the volume of my Marshall most of the time.

I use pedals for lead so I only really require one channel for basic rhythm with a good reverb in built. I want the rhythem sound to be crunchy so a combo amp that will break well to acheive this.

Any comments/thoughts would be much appreciated.anything up to £1000.

what sort of music do you play?, this may help influence the recommendations!

Indie/rock but with punchy rhythms. I have a single coil guitar too. Take a listen on http://www.myspace.com/alvarezkings if that helps with the sound.

I've thought about ampeg reverberocket bu never tried one.

Thanks

I use a Marshall DSL 401 and it does pretty much everything with great tone and reliabiliy. It's 40 watts but I've never had the volume over 3/4s.
Try one and if you like it there are usually a few on Ebay.

The Hiwatt HG50 would do the job for you and looks great value at under £700. Blackstar have their new range of combos due for release any time now. Worth checking out the 40w one as well, perhaps. But if you like the Marshall sound, the DSL 401 is probably going to be more familiar to you.

I wanted something with a good reverb tank and marshalls don't seem to excel in
this. I've looked at fenders but they don't seem to have anything in the 50-60 watt ish range. I was thinking something different to Marshall as I'm planning on keeping my stack.

You could probably get away with less than 50w- you won't hear a huge difference in terms of volume, just in terms of breakup- you'll get a little more distortion at lower levels with a lower powered amp than you would with a 100-watter.

30 watts should see you through most small-to-medium gigs with no problems, and it opens up a whole bunch of options. If you don't mind a little grit, you could quite happily gig with something like a Fender Deluxe (22W), and Vox amps ought to be worth a look for a man in your line of work.

If it doesn't hurt your indie cred to do it ;), keep an eye out for a used Boogie Mark series amp- Fender cleans, punchy tone, lots of volume, good drive sounds... You might scrape in under £1000...

I've thought about fender but weren't so sure 22watts would be enough. I want something with a real nice reverb tank so I guess fenders would suit.

Anyone had experiences with ampeg reverberocket?

Hot Rod Deluxe? That's 40w, but probably not as cool as the Deluxe Reissue.

Good enough for Coldplay, Bloc Party etc. though...

Just like everything, I guess it comes down to how much you willing to spend...How bout a Peavey Valve King 112, thats got great reviews for Rock and heavier sounds. There a some good vids on you-tube that do it some justice...Good thing also is this amp is very cheap :-)
