yeah, that's my next mission.

I've bought a couple of books a chords book and the 8 in 1 guitar for dummies book.

I'm also look at teacher's, I defiantly want lessons, I'm gonna try to learn some basic's from the books, then get proper lessons when I get paid next month. I'm looking at a teacher: http://www.manchesterguitarlessons.co.uk/lessons.html

you may find the chord book a waste of time! apart from basic chords of C,A,G,E etc these books tend to be just a giant list of dots on a page with no real context regarding where a particular chord would work in a song etc. Or by 'chord book' do you mean a song book with the chords printed along side so you can play?

The 'dummy' book will be ok, it at least gives you the opportunity to play and try different things out.

The teacher is a good idea although I have never used one. Thankfully I am a guitar playing genious.....

I have a fairly good book, that also had a few more details about context and what works in keys etc. however you still may want to find a good teacher than can help you along, and practise is key...

I will try to find the name of the book as it had a few song intros/main chords..

Also when you feel confident enough improvising, and playing with others will help you imrpove too some people play at home only learning songs and never get a "feel" for anything...

Finding afew people to play with at a jam night when you are confident enough is a good thing to try...

I agree that chord diagrams without background music theory are of limited use, but when I started out many printed music books were aimed at pianists and would only print the chord names, not the fingering for the guitar, so a chord dictionary was a valuable tool.

If you ask me, it's far more satisfying to be able to bash out a few tunes when you start out learning an instrument than it is to understand the intricacies of music theory (which you can do without, to a huge degree), so the complicated but more long-term useful books can wait.
