Mmmm Epi Custom 3. (hate the mis-use of the Black Beauty name, originally given to the early, 2 pickup Customs)

Good points: Should be a great sound for almost anything. Looks gorgeous. A very good price for one of the better liked Epis.

Bad points: Some players find the middle pickup gets in the way of their playing action a bit. Heavy! Not as heavy as the late '50s Gibsons it is based on but still a fair bit heavier than a Strat or SG.

Verdict: Well worth trying it.

If you can get the epi for £250, then go for it, but be aware that there can a lot of fakes around that price (i've never understood why people fake an epi?!?)

If it's £550 then I would STRONGLY suggest you call Richard and get the Burny version instead- it'll be a far better guitar than the Epiphone- i got one myself yesterday \:\)

lol Is that the smallest picture he could get.

I think with amps in the price range you will be looking at you wont have to match the amp to the guitar. Whats the most amount you can spend on it?

nt sure til I get paid next week, £200-300 prob max I can afford at the mo, preferable less, nt sure if it will be enough, can wait a little and save some more if I have to, but rather start learning as soon as possible really. any hint's what I would need to spend or what to get. I'm never gonna gig with it just want something to learn and practice on that's going to have a reasonably good sound quality, and which will give me something to play with.

is that the actual guitar?

200-300 on an amp is enough to get a good second hand valve amps for your level, im not too good on new amps, personaly I would go for a Blues Junior but im bias to blues valve amps, someone will be able to give better advice on this one.

As far as learning goes, all you need is the guitar, not the guitar and amp. I find myself more and more, and more often just picking up the guitar without pluggin it in and playing. Thats the best way to work out stuff ;\)

I agree Dev, I do that too (on occasion).

Its also worth adding that when learning guitar that it is better to learn with CLEAN tones so you can hear where you're going wrong.

Blues Jnr would be great. Fender Superchamp XD sells at £295 new and is another fine amp.
Valve amps in that price range are going to be pretty basic, so you might look at SS Modeling amps. Roland, Peavey and Vox all have very nice offerings with lots of tones and effects built-in.

I have a Blues Junior and a Laney VC15. Both are great. Laney has a bit more drive available, but less clean headroom.
