Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone can help with a query I have with my early '70s Epiphone Emperor.

I bought the guitar a few years ago and it came fitted with a Bigsby Tremelo and modified roller bridge.

The thing is that the bridge doesn't fit together correctly and I'm wondering which bits are original and what I would need to do to sort it out.

The bottom wooden part of the bridge was badly damaged when I bought the guitar so my father made me an identical replacement (albeit in the wrong colour wood) so I'm hoping to get another made in Bog Oak and then build it up with the correct parts.

Cheers for any help you may be able to give me!

Hi and welcome!

Great looking Emporer. I don't know a great deal about this guitar, but my guess is it would originally have come with a wooden bridge and with a wood baseplate- probably both from ebony or rosewood.

If there's nothing wrong with the roller bridge itself I'd keep it and maybe just get a new bridgeplate- the rollers should help keep the bigsby in tune \:\)

Hey there,

Cheers for the reply! I think you're right about the woods for the bridge.

I'm planning on keeping the roller bridge but I think the problem lies with the way it's mounted on the wooden part. If you look at the second photo, you can see the top part of the bridge is no sitting level on the two metal 'uprights', due to the diameter of the two adjuster wheels.

I think I've got an ill-fitting amalgam of two different sets of metal hardware!!
