TCSC = Tom Corbett Space Cadet, Sorry! He was a boyhood literary hero of mine.
Hi everybody. I have been a member of this chat room for some time now but have not posted much. I actually live in Leamington Spa and used to visit Regent Guitars quite alot to drool over the guitars and amps and spent some time playing them. I know Richard, but he does not know me - if you see what I mean. I've bought a couple of guitars from Richard - a Tanglewood Rossetta and a - wait fot it - a Regent Guitar "Nightfall"! This was an electro acoustic guitar that Richard had specially made for his shop. I still play it alot. I also own an Epiphone Dot semi acoustic guitar that I use for gigs and I like alot too. I have a Roland Cube 30X amp for home and practice and access to a Marshal 100W amp for gigs. If I want extra power I have a home made 200Wrms Mosfet amp with an Emminance guitar speaker. I feed it through a KORG AX10G (also from Regent Guitars). However and lol, I can't set up the AX10 properly! so it dosn't get used much! It is a case of RTFM! which I can't understand! It is also a bit too small to be able to see the controls easily enough during a gig.
I have played the guitar since the early 60s! and I should be able to play alot better than I can, considering how much time I spend on it. I haven't performed in public a lot but I have done so on several occasions in a band and solo. I have been fortunate with the excellent musicians I have played with and there is nothing quite like the buzz you get when a decent drummer and bass start up with you! My advice to anybody in the early stages of learning to play a musical instrument, is to get proper lessons from a qualified teacher (if you can afford it). I didn't and I wish I had. Secondly get involved in playing with other people. My music had stagnated and I was getting nowhere fast until I joined a band. I need external pressure on me to make me work at getting something right or learn something new. I am a knowledgable electronics engineer and have designed and built several amps and guitar effect units. They didn't all work well and I wouldn't trust them to be reliable in a gig as they usually all fall apart! My training was actually on valve design so maybe my retirement ( I am just about to!) project is to design and build the world's bestest ever guitar valve amp!!!! Cheers!
