If you like Texas Blues and some guitar playing with a bit of an edge try "Rythmeen" by ZZ Top, most of the tracks are on Youtube.....and good audio quality too. Give it a listen and see if it makes you think of Tacos, dry heat, dust and immoral ladies....or maybe I just need help.

Robert Plant's guitarist with the Strange Sensation, Justin Adams, has joined with the guitarists from PublicImageLtd. (Lu Edmonds) and Billy Bragg (Ben Mandelson) to form Les Triaboliques.

They have recorded an album, Rivermudtwilight, and even created a new genre...dustcore.

They'll be touring the UK and Europe in November 2010.

After a lay-ff for some summer salsa it's back with the big guns: Govt Mule's triple CD Mulennium. Almost worth the admission price just to hear 21st Century Schizoid Man.

If you have a bit of time to kill (TV's crap anyway) and you like a bit of classic rock 'n' blues there's a great cocert of theirs here:

Finally got a decent set of headphones, Shure SRH840:

What a revelation. It's like falling in love with my music collection again; I'm hearing subtle nuances I never knew were there. Right now Stevie Wonder's masterwork is blasting through my head.

Brandon Flowers' solo debut Flamingo dropped through my door yesterday. So far I'm loving it. Very understated and basically a more synthy Killers album without the AWESOME basslines, but really good stuff.

Happy new headphones day! I can tend to get a bit evangelical about good headphones, but only because I've had the same experience. Once you've heard good hi-fi sound, you'll feel like apologising to your own ears if you subject them to anything else

Gotta say though, this is Stevie's masterwork if you ask me:

Much more concise, much more funky, not nearly so sappy

Innervisions is a great album and Talking Book and Fulfillingness' First Finale are not too shabby either. Key of Life just shades it for me because of personal circumstances and memories but what a body of work all four are.

Tonight it's something soft and chilled to wind down with after a hard day:

This sounds beautiful through the new cans; a really intimate production.

Some days you gotta go back to the source:

Those early singles sound SO good- great songs, great playing, and that enormous bass sound!

So much energy too- the songs just blast out of the speakers. It's hard to appreciate just how heavy those songs must have sounded in the early 60s, but you can at least compare some of their covers to the original versions to hear how much they were beefed-up and sped-up and what a big sound they were making for such a small band.

Best of R.E.M, In Time 1999 - 2003. Been a while since I listened to them, enjoying it very much!

[quote=english_bob]Some days you gotta go back to the source:

That's a coincidence EB because having tried out the Beatles' Love for it's remastered magic and before reading your post I was inspired to do exactly as you suggest and this is what I'm listening to right now:

I'll say one more thing about the new toy and then shut up about it. There seem to be two categories worth a go with headphones, a) those albums that are made with great production that are an aural treat and b) those that are best suited to solitary pleasure. Not everyone shares my impeccable taste here at Egg Towers and rather than risk opprobrium I prefer to enjoy some things on my own. A couple of examples, Twice Born Men by Sweet Billy Pilgrim and The Bairns by The Unthanks are not really sharing kinds of albums but reward concentration.

Any other suggestions for either category above because...hang on Twist & Shout is just starting... off with the phones and we ..
