Pink Floyd's Meddle and Macca Live in NYC,inspired by Hyde Park gig \:\) Also got the last Oasis album- the first one since Be Here Now I didn't buy on release day. Seems to have some great tracks on it but a pretty huge number of rehashes and "non-songs"

Up til now (and to my shame!) I only have the "big 3" Floyd albums, which I adore, but haven't ever delved into the rest of the catalogue other than odd tracks from live albums. Really enjoying Meddle so all is good!

Now onto the Manics' "Journal..". Going to pick up their new one at the weekend

DSOTM, WYWH and The Wall?

"Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" is well worth a listen, although "Syd's Floyd" is *very* different to "Roger's Floyd".

I haven't explored much further than that myself- most of the later stuff on the two-disc best of from a few years back didn't really float my boat- when you're writing songs about learning to fly your own private plane you're not really saying anything I can relate to...

Just having a first listen to the new Bad Religion album, Dissent of Man.

And to Bob and Sticky, personally I really like Lapse and Division Bell. Almost on a par with WYWH.

Makes a change for me to listen to something new and made in the last year.

But this is an exception - Lunatic Soul.

Dark soundscapes - beauty and passion, melodies.

By Mariusz Duda - bass player, vocalist, songwriter for Polish Prog Rock band 'Riverside'.

Thought-provoking, emotive, hypnotic rhythms. Inward-focused theme of the 'self', 'life & death' the spiritual 'life cycle'.

Combines dark prog rock and ambient music.

A unique voice in a world of imitation wannabes.

I've not heard of Lunatic Soul but I shall investigate. My modern prog rock fix usually consists of Porcupine Tree these days but I admit my education is lacking in that area.

I've been trawling through the live concerts on the Internet Archive particularly for Little Feat and Bela Fleck concerts. There are loads of audience and soundboard recordings and the sound is a little iffy at times but the music is amazing. There are times when it's great to listen on state of the art equipment and I'm a sucker for toys just like the next man, but when all's said and done it's the music that counts. If you have several lifetimes to spare there's over 80,000 concerts here:

The Internet Archive

After the chat about Pink Floyd I'm inspired to play one of my favourites, often overlooked, The Soundtrack to the film More.

While we're talking Pink Floyd i'm really looking forward to the David Gilmour album with The Orb (metallic spheres) due out in a few weeks.

Great to see Porcupine Tree mention above. I've been a fan of there's since Stupid Dream came out and it's great to see them becoming more well known with each release.

I'm currently listening to (and watching) Springsteen live from Hyde Park. Nils is spinning around picking away on his amazing solo to Youngstown as I type this!

Great line up - best they've had. Heart of the Sunrise and Roundabout worth the price of admission on thier own.

Moondance; what a great song from a fine album. It should be sung in a sleazy jazz joint on the Lower East Side late in the summer night where the smoke of Lucky Strike cigarettes triumphs over cheap perfume and Jack Daniels, but only just...

Richard Thompson's latest arrived via the internet pixies yesterday. He can do no wrong in my eyes, one of my favourite guitarists and a great songwriter. BBC4 (default viewing on Friday nights now) showcased singer-songwriters yesterday and they showed a gig he did with Suzanne Vega and Loudon Wainwright.
