Hi Guys,

Two questions in one go? is that bad form? If it is sorry, but I'm hungry for answers - ANSWERS!

I've got a lovly Gibson BFG, I've been told by a friend that the slight interference hum/buzz that I get from it can be cured by doing two things.

Replacing the current kill switch and cable with a balanced cable.

Shielding the innards with copper tape.

He says that his is beautiful now, the kill switch is silent, and the tone has improoved.

Where can I buy a balanced cable? Where can I buy sheilding tape, what brands and what's the technique for applying it?

THANK YOU

I can't imagine that balanced cable has any effect since your amplifier input is almost certainly unbalanced.
Certainly go for the shielding - supprised a Gibson in such a price bracket has none though!
Copper tape is on Ebay, and you can use the self adhevsive sort.

Don't know why you have to use copper tape, surely aluminium foil could be used.
Its only slightly less conductive than copper and can be nicked from the kitchen \:\)

Stick it down well and make sure it does not touch any conductive bits inside the cavity.

Aluminium foil works a treat but it's a pain to stick it down. I'm a fan of the copper shielding myself - save a lot of hassle.

Though in this case I actually wonder if it was actually just a grounding problem that was cured when the switch was rewired.

Is your guitar humming on all pickup settings, or just the neck or bridge on their own?
