I use a pair of Behringer MS40 monitors in my GuitarRig / Reaper recording setup. If I recall the set me back about £90 (I was shocked to see how much one can spend!). I've been really impressed with them. They're no tube amp in terms of volume, but they're loud enough for a large room setup, I've never had any issues with the sound breaking up due to volume. IMO very good quality/value.

A diagram of my setup just in case you're interested

If you're new to recording and just dipping a toe in the waters you might be safer with a set of headphones to start with- £20 or so will get you a reasonable set of enclosed phones, whereas a set of halfway serious powered monitors will cost you the best part of £100.
