I have just discovered these on Ebay, and if you look at there site they do seem good value for money and hell of a good price (most between £150 and £250 on Ebay).

has anyone heard of these before?

Im still saving for me gibbo but just thought id mention this in case anyone is after a tasty budget guitar!

I've vaguely heard of them, but I'm always highly sceptical of Ebay-only guitar sellers with cheap, presumably far-east-made instruments.

They look great in the photos, but a great deal of effort these days seems to go in to making budget guitars look the part, which unfortunately is no guarantee that they'll sound or feel any good.

If they're particularly cheap, or there's someone with a bit of cash spare to take a punt on a guitar that may or may not be a "firewood special" they might be a pleasant surprise, but I think you're doing the right thing saving for a Gibson.

(actually, if you were saving for a Gordon Smith you'd be doing the right thing... )

I'm quite partial to the double-cutaway GS1.5s with the SG-style bevelled body edges, but that's £500-odd that I don't have right now. A nice Gibson-styled guitar is all that's missing from my little guitar collection. For now, anyway...

yeah i would definately go for the double as opposed to the single cut away, i have an ibanez in that shape, like the old gibson melody maker and i find them really comfy with great access to the top of the neck!

My first post here - so, hello!

I'm curious about these guitars too. Looking at the range they offer and the distinct shape of the headstock, it looks like the Hodson branded guitars are the same as the J&D (Jack and Danny) branded guitars sold in mainland Europe - Google implies that they're fairly well regarded for what they are... I quite like the look of their thinline tele (albeit that the J&D logo is prettier than the Hodson one).

Give me a break - Lets have a reality check. They are just run of the mill mass produced guitars - No more, no less, "next!!".

If you want something special I have the most wonderful project on the go. You should see the baseline starting point - an incredible quality "recognisable" 3 single coil body shape - vintage machines, rosewood or maple neck in a range of classic colours. We can professionally set these up at £149 and I kid you not that they compare and surpass with guitars at £300! Then, we offer literally any upgrade from there. The guitars are alder bodied and the finish is superb so we can literally offer a whole range of mods and you can have a professional intsrument with pretty much every professional component imaginable fitted for up to to £750. Its a really cool way of building your own dream guitar which is truly your own.

Now the point I was going to mention...

Oh yes...
!!!

We have a the Gordon Smith SG2 models due in the next week or so - someone mentioned them!

Richard I thought you were off Gordon Smith due to bad quality? Is he back to normal?

I hate to say it, but I played a Jazzcat the other day, alongside a squier jazz and my mustang.

The hodson is not bad. Yes it's finished in thick syrupy laquer, has a smaller body, average hardware and feels a bit cheap...but actually it plays like a dream and sounded great through both an AC30 and a fender.

I don't like all this cheap stuff, I mean in reality you can't even afford to build a guitar for the prices they're seeling them for (sweatshops take the brunt of that loss). But if you want a jazzmaster style guitar you have to pay from about £350 (for something of poor quality) up to a thousand (for sometimes something of equally poor quality from Fender).

For £189 delivered, I'd say it's something to consider.
Or just go and build one yourself!
