Hello, Good Morning ;), (my first post) (Finger style learner)
I have a new acoustic guitar 8 weeks old, and I have a buzz on the B string when played open, it is like a buzz/high frequency sound as the note rings.
I waited until 8 weeks to see if things settled with the guitar, and then changed the strings, but with the new strings fitted the buzz/frequency sound seems even more evident. it rings out and sounds into the next chord/note annoyingly so.
Everything about this guitar is perfect except this B string buzz.
The B note played on the G string rings out fine.
Tuners are all tight and secure, same brand/gauge strings refitted
When I play the B string open, fingerstyle and plucking upwards, it is really pronounced?,
I wonder if anyone could advise me on where to start looking for the problem, I've been playing for a year and a half now.
Thanks for any help
Alan

Hello Stickyfiddle, thanks for responding to my post.
1) There is a slight groove in the B string position on the saddle sure enough. I have used a 6" steel rule as a straight edge across the frets and there seems to be no bumps (over raised frets) as I move along the frets, and no daylight between the rule and the frets
It's not a question of taking it back, it would have to be posted back, and this Tanglewood is the 3rd one I have had from them, I sent back a Takamine and also a Yamaha, both with faulty pre-amps, the Takamine got badly damaged in transit, and there was a long wait for a replacement so I opted for this Tanglewood, and apart from this 'B' string problem I am chuffed with it, and reluctant to release this one back into the vendors control, talking weeks. (bought on the Internet)
I'm considering trying a Buffalo Bone saddle? what do you think? (£8 E & B compensated delivered)
Cheers
Alan

Hello Wolf, thanks for the reply,
It is definitely an open 'B' string prob, it seems to initially ring ok and it turns into like a metallic/buzz sound and carries on into my next note.
I have backed off the Truss Rod nut and set the relief to .010" height between the bottom of the low E and the top of the 6th fret (capo on 1st fret & finger fretting the 14th).
It made no difference, I m quite sure I would be able to carefully make a duplicate of the existing saddle from a new bone saddle, but I'm not sure about the nut Wolfe?. Looks like the nut is tack glued in position? would that be the case usually?
I would need proper tools like needle files to suit each slot?
Cheers
Alan

Thanks again for the photos, and advice.
Here are some measurements I've taken taken, I wonder if you could comment on them please.
I have checked the relief (capo at 1st fret & 14th held down) Low 'E' is set @ .011" @ the 6th-7th fret!, High 'E' ia set @ .006 Ditto String height between top 1st fret & Bottom of string Low 'E' .022" High 'E' .010" 'B' .020" ????? so 'B' is high in the nut Compared to High 'E'? String height between top 12th fret & Bottom of string Low 'E' .095" High 'E' .068
Regards
Alan

Hello, I'm back, and need more advice please?
I keep reading about the standard action height @ the 12th fret for an acoustic guitar i.e. 1st 'E' .073", .075", .080", .084", .086" & 6th 'E' .090".
If a new saddle is carved and set to the fret board radius (my Tanglewood) of 15.750" radius, and then after taking height measurements @ the 12th fret calculate how much needs to be removed from each area from the top of the saddle @ each string position to bring the string height in line with the standard action height.
Using meaurements taken with a dial vernier gauge from the bottom of the saddle to the actual string location on the top of saddle, less the calculated amount of material to be removed should give me the standard height. But would like some clarification as to the fret board radius and the radius on the saddle?
If I do this the saddle will not have a radius anything like the fret board radius of 15.750". Removing material from the bottom only, won't allow for accurate height adjustments in the middle strings.
From what I read it seems most people set the 1st and 6th string height and let the other strings be whatever they are, for instance my troublesome 'B' string is much higher than the 1st and 3rd
What is the best height settings to use, I realise that the action is mostly subjective and down to whatever you are comfortable with, I'm just not sure and ask for some advice on this matter.
Thanks again for any advice
Alan
