So - enamoured by the Baja Tele I wondered if it would be possible to re-wire my Classic 50s Tele (or anything for that matter) with the S-1 switching system. I see that the wiring diagrams are available - not that they really make any sense to me.
This sort of guitar work is not something I have ever done - not a stranger to the ol' soldering iron though ha.
Wondered - not that i am going to go ahead and do it - if it was at all possible?
Would save me £550 if it was \:D

I'm sure it's doable with a new push/pull switch and possibly a superswitch with more poles. I#'ll have a think

Definitely doable. The Baja wiring diagram on the Fender website doesn't look too complicated either. All you need is an S-1 switch, a 4-way switch, an 0.01uf and an 0.05uf capacitor (which may come with the switch), total cost round about £40.

A cheaper option might be to do the Deaf Eddie tele 5-tone mod, for which all you'll need is a double wafer superswitch. http://www.deaf-eddie.net/drawings/5-tone-2008.jpg I've experimented quite a bit with his switches and mods, and they're excellent, and a lot of fun.

Don't be afraid to take the plunge into modding. As long as you don't damage the pickups (and there's really no reason to go anywhere near the pickups for such mods), there's nothing that can go irretrievably wrong. Any mistakes you make are easily rectifiable, and everything is totally reversible. Go for it and good luck (although I have to say that I personally don't much go for the out-of-phase sounds).

Btw Sticky, I don't know if shallower push-pull pots are available, but all the ones I've tried don't fit into teles without a bit of additional routing. I'd be grateful if you or anyone else can prove me wrong and point me to a source of shallower push-pull pots.
