Hey folks,
I'm beginning to make the move into session work and would like your thoughts on "the Ultimate Session Pedalboard". It has to be comprehensive enough to cover a wide variety of playing situations but small enough to carry. Oh, and I don't like multi fx.
So.... what do ya reckon?

Search for Oz Noy on Youtube. He has a very versatile pedalboard capable of some great sounds, some of them very unusual.
Alternatively, just seek out pedals that can give you a few variations on all the widely used effects. Low/medium/high gain ODs or distortions, delay, reverb, a couple of modulations etc. Might be worth finding some good "noise" or "effect" pedals that can get you some unusual noises- Whammy, Fuzz Factory, HOG or POG- but stuff you can work in with your style.
As much as anything, you want reliability and flexibility. If you get to a session and your stuff doesn't work, you're not going to create a great impression, and if you can't tailor your sound to what your client wants, he won't want to use it.
Have you considered POD Farm / Amplitude / guitar Rig?

Get a good wah, a good volume pedal, a compressor, a vintage-sounding fuzz, a modern fuzz, a treble booster, a tubescreamer, a clean boost, a really good delay pedal (Eventide Timefactor would always be my go-to), a phaser, a chorus (bleurgh ), and a tuner. Then maybe think about HOGs, POG and Whammys
Make sure you have a decent 3 or 4 guitars for different sounds.
Then move to California where there is more work. And keep in mind that there has barely been any guitar playing on any big pop record for 2 years...

^ or move to Nashville, where all the country records are made, which all feature lots of guitar playing.
Prepare to have your @rse handed to you by one $hit hot sessioneer after another though. It's a tough gig, apparently.

Nashville Cats:
Well, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two guitar pickers in Nashville And they can pick more notes than the number of ants On a Tennessee anthill Yeah, there's thirteen hundred and fifty two guitar cases in Nashville And any one that unpacks his guitar could play Twice as better than I will
