This one may sound stupid but it's driving me nuts.

Some time ago I bought a daisy chain lead to power my pedals from a single power supply, my power supply has 500ma and powered one pedal just fine. But when I connected the daisy chain I got no power, even when plugging in just the one pedal that worked fine when powered by the same supply without the daisy chain. Obviously I thought it was broken so I got an all in one supply with the daisy chain incorporated into it.

But My friend just bought a daisy chain lead and has the exact same problem. Are we really both unlucky enough to both get a faulty one, or are we doing something wrong?

Cheers.

How are you linking the pedals together and are they all 12 volts, some have a higher or lower voltage. Also, are they all the same polarity?

I was linking 2 or 3 boss pedals, example I tried a DD7 and a metal zone pedal, both standard 9v and I assum the same polarity, in fact I'm sure I checked my pedals for this at the time. My friend is also using Boss, an octave 3 and a loopstation.

What I don't get is that we can both get a single pedal to work off just the power supply, but plug the power supply into the daisy chain then connect just the pedal that just worked... and nothing. Surely this means it's broken but what are the odds of both of us buying a faulty cable?

Just using a patch cable between the two pedals as normal, and they work off batteries like this.

This is a bizzare situation!

The obvious reasons a PSU/daisychain won't work are either a short circuit somewhere, or a lack of connection.

Have you tried every output of the daisychain individually with just the one pedal?

Have you made sure the open ends of the daisy chain aren't touching anything else? Sometimes if the 'spare' ends of the daisychain touch the casings of other pedals they can short the PSU.

My other suggestion would be that 500mA might not be enough power, so it's not powering up all your pedals. But it should still work for just one pedal with/without the daisychain, so it's unlikely to be the main problem
