Simple question, guess it depends on the person.
But as a general steer, lessons or books / internet / trial and error / cursing?
I am swaying towards getting a lesson or 2, just to start me off, but dont want to waste money. Which leads to the next question - Which Tutor? Based in the Blackpool area if by some miracle anyone knows anyone.
Been learning for around a month, can play a few chords (literally 3), can switch reasonably quickly but not in time and definately not fast enough. My hands dont seem to want to work independantly at the moment.
So yeah, just general advice really I have a Vintage V400N guitar, just as a "Try it out, see how I go" sort of approach

If you can only play 3 chords after a month, I would definitely say find a tutor. Sure, do a couple of lessons and see how you get on. I myself am totally self-taught, but I recognise that most of what I know could have been learnt from a competent tutor in far less time.

Defo getting there, it is just finding a method that works for you really isnt it

Just a quick update on this:
Had my first lesson last Monday and it is going a lot better. All seems to be slotting into place. Couple of bad habits picked up on and stamped out as well as technique changed a bit
Starting to sound slightly tuneful now. Although nothing recognisable as a song as of yet due to slow switching of chords. But defo getting places now.:)
Taking guitar in to get the strings lowered tonite as it will make barr chords easier when we get to them further down the line.

Hi Deanoet, i know the feeling !!! have you tried Lick Library on the net. its very good, you can dip in for free or subscribe cheaply for online lessons and buy dvds of certain artists to learn tracks and styles. I bought the hendrix jamtrax and its coming on, slowly, very slowly, but its fine and if cash is short cheaper than a tutor. But if you get really serious i have to say you must get a tutor. All the best !
