Had been using, only for practice though,a Fender Deluxe 90 which I've had since new approx 7yrs.Couple of years ago kept cutting out.Electronics man repaired...Heat sink burnt out.Came back worked, broke again.Something about live circuit blown speaker??Replaced speaker, bob's your uncle...Cut out again...Solder joints....All resoldered..Perishing thing is doing a Norman Collier(mature members might remember this fellow whose act was a dodgy mike sketch)again. To replace it with somethig similarly loud enough will be dear....Can anyone point out what might be wrong?
Am not without an amp as my other is a 250 Marshall....That does though rather burn the ears...Well so the rest of the village tell me!

Couldn't say what's wrong, but you might consider trying a different repairer.

I do wonder whether you might be better off cutting your losses though. For as dear as a new amp might be, your repair bills on your existing one will soon mount up...

Loud enough for what?

Try Googling "fender deluxe 90 problem" -- there are several similar reports, including a YouTube video. It seems to be a hard-to-find intermittent on the circuit board or possibly inside one of the components. The best cure would be a new board.

Good luck!

Dave

There's an old adage about electronics that I heard... something about not putting your fingers anywhere you wouldn't happily put your...er... yeah.

saw a bloke do a demo of a Marshall Haze 40 in Navada music in Portsmouth. It was brilliant and will allow your exuberant skin basher his outbursts too.

I'm a laney sort myself, so would opt for the VC30 or LC30 for a more modern sound. As for your Fender amp, how much do you love it to keep getting it mended? I traded a Peavy Bandit in for a Laney TF50 11 years ago and it still sounds amazing.

Oh dear, I've just seen the video...

"My Fender amp 'was' making this sound. I believe it's the two big transistors (capacitors) you see me touch."

"I wouldn't try this stuff in europe or where the ac current is 220volts. Using a wooden stick or something non conductive"

"i touched a capicitor or something and i thought my friend next to me had actually tackled me full on. it was pretty powerful."

*sigh*

Steve.

I'd like to see that burnt-out heatsink. It sounds like bovine excrement to me!

It sounds like pc needs a recomendation for an good honest repair man. The Norman symptom should be fairly easy to find for a good electronic technician.

Er, have you ever tried to track down an intermittent fault that refuses to disclose itself? It can take ages. Ages = lots of money when you're paying by the hour. This is why I suggested a new board.

The intermittent fault that sticks in my memory was a dodgy connection inside a wirewound resistor. I eventually found it with freezer spray but it took me many hours as it only happened very rarely and never to order. Got the b*gger in the end though!
