I've recently bought a set of Wizard's Ozone pickups for a Strat project I'm putting together. I don't know anyone who plays wizard pickups, but they're hand made in Wales, and seem decent value compared to other hand-wound pickups. Has anyone else tried these pickups? I've not had my Strat put together yet so I'm eager to see what they sound like

Mr Wizard used to stay not far from my old town. I've heard nothing but good things, in fact raves about them, but sadly have very little experience with them \:\(

I have heard a custom wizard pickup set in person, all that I can tell you though is that they made a 10w crate practice amp sound pretty ace.

Steve.

I've heard good things too- I actually heard he taught Tim at Bareknuckle all about pickups (or possibly was taught by Tim). Either way the prognosis is good \:\)

Wizard has been around for a long time- certainly before I heard of Bareknuckle, so I suspect it was Mr Wizard who taught Mr Bareknuckle

One strange thing I've observed is that, like myself, everyone's heard good things about them but struggle to find anyone who actually has any first hand experience \:\(
Considering how close I used to stay to the guy I heard very very little about the operation while he was here, and in small places like where I grew up thats not common.
The reason I never bought any of his products is because they all looked so generic on the website, nothing sold it to me. No demos, no sound clips, no real characteristics of the products mentioned except a huge page of pickups going from 'low gain' to 'high gain'.
I mean, at least I know what to expect when I buy a Super Distortion or a JB...

Steve.

Thanks to Richard and his tech at Richards Guitars my Strat is now assembled. I have to say the Wizard Ozone pickups sound awesome...along with the rest of the guitar! I've got another Strat with Custom Shop Texas Specials in, and the Ozone's blow them away! They're clearer, more transparent sounding, with a sweeter top end, a slightly compressed midrange, and smoother sound than the Texas Specials.

Highly recommended, and they cost less than most other hand-wound pickups. Awesome!
