Some very, very fine playing from all the contributors. The running order is:
0:05 Bassface7
1:35 The Tiggs
3:06 Old Swanner
4:36 Skyline Band (with bass from Davebass)
6:06 Stickyfiddle (with bass from Davebass)
7:37 english_bob (with bass from english_bob )
Apologies to Not the DJ, who also submitted a track, but didn't reply to my PM about how Cubase wouldn't import an m4a file, so sadly couldn't be included in the final mixdown- sorry Col! Sorry to others who wanted to contribute and didn't get in before the deadline- next time!!
Must do this again some time.

Very interesting!
Special thanks to English Bob for making the backing track and doing the final mix.
EDIT: For future reference, this site is handy for the odd file conversion, and claims to be able to handle .m4a files.

Oops. Didn't see the PM (been on Holiday for a couple of weeks and didn't seem to get an e-mail saying I had a PM, must check my forum settings).
Never mind though. Looking forward to hearing the finished result when I get home tonight.

Brilliant! I particularly liked english_bob's contribution but guys, are you trying to demoralise me or what?!!!

It's surprising how little "technique" you need to sound good over a simple progression if you know how to apply it.
Most of the solos this time round were fairly simple and relied on space and good note choices to sound good- all about playing the right note over the right chord.
Did you try playing over the backing track? You might surprise yourself

I'll give it a try as soon as the neighbours have gone on holiday!

Your comment made me want to have a go. However, funky stuff is not my style so I recorded 16 bars of drums, bass and organ in Em at 85bpm and added three simple guitar lines. You're all going to p*ss yourself laughing but hey, it's the first time I've recorded myself playing (for want of a better word) the guitar. It's improvised and rather repetitive but there you are. Should I persevere or just give up?
It's here !
PS. I connected the Line Out of the Marshall to the Mic input of my Terratec sound card rather than mic the amp. I tried a Line input but the signal was too weak and if I'd turned the amp up, I'd have had the Environmental Health Officer knocking on my door!
