How about using my E minor thing if I remove the guitars and bass?

I got a hotter signal using the sound card's mic input but I remain convinced that micing up the amp is the best way to do this.

You might get better results if you mic up the amp, but you could also try disconnecting the speaker and using the line out- depending on your software you could always add reverb as a plug-in later on. Of course, this introduces a new problem in working out how you monitor what you're playing...

If you're happy to put the final mix together as well, I'm happy with that. I like it. Reminds me of blues-era Gary Moore

So how does it work? Forum members send me their performances only, in mp3 format, and I import them into my audio sequencer as additional tracks? I'm not brilliant at mixing but I'll give it a go if everybody is happy with it.

That's it. You'll learn a lot from this I'm sure. The first forum jam (blues) was really my first attempt at mixing other peoples work togther, think it came out ok (apart from some timing issues which were pointed out).

As long as there's something obvious at the start of each track to allow you to get them in time it'll be fine (a click or drum count in, that sort of thing). Also helps if people up load a version with and without the backing so you can compare and make sure it matches. Then it's a case of getting the levels right across the different players pieces.

I'm in, and I'll make sure I save it as an MP3 this time (I was in a rush last time so just hit 'export to itunes' from garageband and it decided on the format...d'oh)

My megamix posted on the previous page seems to have been gracefully brushed under the carpet, so maybe I'm stepping on some toes here .. no offence intended.

However, I reckon that is a great way to enhance this forum jam. Anybody (including interested observers who may not want to post their own playing) could make their own finished product from the building blocks posted by participants.

That way we get to hear each contributor's individual tracks as they are posted, and (the fun bit), a multitude of totally different finished products.

(or you can tell me to sling my hook).

No offence taken here. I've not commented on it as I've not had the chance to hear it (can't download and listen to it at work). I've not actually heard the finished jam track yet!

Anything that enhances the jam idea and get's us playing/recording/mixing/learning is all good in my book.

I was tempted to do some more serious editing in the one I did, taking phrases from the different players and turning them into a twin guitar dual type of thing...but them it was time for bed and I didn't bother \:\(

You're right about the hosting sites though, the old ones have vanished (think they need to be downloaded once every 30 days or something). We certainly need a more permanant hosting for these. I have the MP3 files of the older ones so we can get them back out there easy enough.

For good music hosting I can recommend Soundcloud. Great quality, really fast and generally good \:\)

Sure. I've got them on my mac at home so I'll see about sending them later. Drop me a PM with your e-mail address. There's 3 I think, blues, rock and a Pink Floydish style one.

If anyone's got a easy way of hosting these let me know as well and I can send you the files to.
