Looks very much like a double cutaway Les Paul Special..Headstock fretboard and shape incredibly similar.Might be that the owner upgraded from the Gibson cheap finish...Plastic tuners etc...Will try and find a usable link with picture

Well, Initially I thought an Aria with a changed neck or replaced headstock.
MoP markers and one piece solid wood say quality - unscreened cavity suggests otherwise but maybe not at this date (assumes 1977 is not a red herring). The number suggests it might be one of a small number of prototypes for a manufacturing run...someone's attempt to copy a Melody Maker?
Anyway a web search lead to this - which looks like the very similar guitar
http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/other-gibsons/84468-gibson-melody-maker-1964-genuine-fake.html
But I can't find one with the combination of features yours had - its the large headstock that is the problem. Gibsons all appear to have the narrow head as do the Memphis and Ibanez copies (e.g. 2344, 2343 has correct head but wrong body!).
Good Luck in your search...
