Following english_bob's suggestion, I am starting a new thread for this. I hope this is the right place; I don't want to exclude acoustic guitarists!

Well, here's my rather basic backing track. I'm happy for anybody to send me their contributions (mp3 please) at gilles[at]gillescoudert[dot]com

Right-click here and save the file.

I changed the drum sounds, added a 1-bar count in and a cymbal at the start of the 16 bars. For continuity purposes, the track loops round then fades out.

BPM=85. Chord sequence:

Em Em Am Am Em Em Am Am
Bm Bm C D Em Am/Bm Em Em

^ That's what you always say ;\)

You could always cross-post this in the acoustic guitar or bass forums, but it's not like Harmony Central here, where each forum has a very different "population"- most people here seem to visit all the forums as and when, so electric guitars should be fine.

I was a little worried that 16 bars might be too short, but given that the last forum jam ran to nearly ten minutes, I think it's probably alright. Besides, there's a lot to be said for learning to say everything you want to say in a solo in a short space of time. By Van Halen standards, 16 bars is ages!

In other words, when you hear the 2nd cymbal, your time is up!!! ;\)

OK, I have copied my original post to the acoustic and bass forums (fora?).

Couldn't find the pedal steel, ukulele and bouzouki sections though...

Thanks to OldSwanner for his contribution. I'm afraid he has set high standards for the rest of you!

You can hear it here. I will add contributions as they arrive. Please send them to gilles[at]gillescoudert[dot]com.

Just received a second contribution (The Tiggs). I'll work on it tomorrow. Now, come on guys, who's next? I'd like to hear some acoustic guitar and bass lines too!

Thanks, Stickyfiddle, I look forward to hearing it.

I have now edited the 4 existing contributions (in order: OldSwanner, me, TheTiggs & BobGnarly). You can hear the result and the individual performances here. I must come up with a better mix, as many of the subtleties of The Tiggs' performance are drowned in the current one.

Keep'em coming!

Gilles
