Got myself an acoustic guitar, Vintage V400n if it makes any difference

When playing some chords, mainly E Major after a few strums there is sometimes a very high pitched whistle like feedback from a speaker? It stops if I stop the strings, so it is the guitar making the high pitch...

What am i doing wrong? Or is it just in my head?

Sounds like it could be sympathetic resonance. This happens when the pitch of one of the notes played is in exact harmony with the pitch of another object, either on the guitar or in close proximity, causing that object to resonate and emit a noise 'in sympathy.' Do you still get the noise if you play in different rooms/locations? The reason I ask is that sympathetic resonance can often be caused by something else close by. If you do, then the problem is on the guitar, most probably one of the metal parts. To identify the source of the noise, hold down and strike the E chord, and as you get the noise, use your right hand to briefly touch various parts of the guitar. The noise should be dampened when you touch the part causing the resonance.

Thanks for that
I havent tried it in different rooms so will give that a go over the weekend

Suppose it would make sense as I play it in a corner, so it has walls and furniture to bounce off which no doubt adds to the chance of the resonating.

It seems to be since I got the strings lowered, but as i am a beginner it may just be because I can play chords in some sort of rytham now where as I couldnt before. \:\)

It must be where I play the guitar as it doesnt do it in different rooms, and it didnt do it when I was at the lesson either

Thanks for the help, will re-locate my practising location. \:\)
