Hi all,

I called into see Richard's new shop this afternoon. Very nice indeed, and being able to park is a luxury!

Anyway he's got a new range of BBE pedals in, and he's kindly lent me the 'Mind Bender' chorus/vibrato pedal to try out. I'm looking for a quality chorus pedal so this is the ideal opportunity to try a make I'm not familiar with, and help Richard out by having a second opinion.

Given it a quick blast this evening, but only through a pocket pod (toddler asleep upstairs). I'll try it through my amp tomorrow to give it a proper test, but many thanks to Richard for letting me give it a try for a few days.

Initial thoughts are the build quality is top notch, seems really solid and well made. I'll hold off with any comments on the sound till I've given it decent try through my amp.

Here's the link anyway:

Cheers,
Col

So I had a good old play with the pedal Richard kindly lent me to try.

In the end I decided it wasn't right for me. The simple two knob controls (rate and depth) is fine, but the depth knob goes way to quick too soon for my tastes. Great for mad underwater warbles, but not for me.

Shame as it seems really nice and solid, and I love the super bright blue LED (which pulses to show the speed).

I did find it gave quite a lot of noise (hiss really) when played with even a mildly distorted tone (either from pedals or my amps). Sounded great on a clean channel though, and with the rate knob set really low I loved it (used it on the latest forum jam).

Personally I'm after a bit more flexibility from a chorus pedal so I've now got a Visual Sounds Liquid Chorus, which as well as the usual rate a depth has a delay time control and a width knob, so that gives a really wide variety of chorus sounds.

Thanks again to Richard for letting me borrow the pedal, really good of you.

Col

(PS I WILL get round to trying out the O-port, probabally this weekend and I'll try and do a decent A/B recording)
