Hi all
My Ashdown MAG300 115 combo has developed a wish to apply an unwanted permanent fuzz effect & I suspect a blown speaker. I`m thinking of replacing with an upgrade but finding lots of different opinions as to best speaker - eminence seems to feature quite highly. Does anyone have any ideas or opinions? Thank you.

Thanks for that Jacktlad, I`ve looked on their website & can`t see anything about a free CD but their specs look good.
From much googling, I gather that replacing speakers is not as simple as just sticking in same size/rating as the busted one as cabs tend to be designed around a specific speaker.
Any help advice on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

In a ported cabinet yes, you should really replace a speaker with the same model or in a pinch find one with the closest parameters possible to the original model, or find one that works well given the box/port dimentions (I wont go into that here)
In a sealed cab (looking at a picture of your amp, I THINK its a sealed enclosure) this isn't as important. If it were a guitar cab I'd feel quite happy swapping most 12" guitar speakers around and just experimenting.
Since this is for a bass though I would say its more important to make sure the cabinet is big enough to get the best out of the speaker, otherwise you'll lose low end and/or get a (unpleasent) hump in the frequency response.
So, for example, if I were thinking about buying this speaker off the eminence website: http://www.eminence.com/pdf/legend-cb15.pdf I would look at the "mounting information" box in that pdf, and see if the volume of your cab is close to the recommended sealed enclosure volume. (In fact if the boxes I've modelled are any indication, as long as your cab is bigger than the recommended enclosure you should be good.) If not, try another till you find a good fit
...or you could just roll the dice and stick something in Wonderful thing about musical instruments is that it doesn't matter if its engineered 'technically correct', as long as it sounds good its all good
Steve.

Thanks Scrooge, for your excellent & detailed advice. Very helpful. I certainly don`t want an unpleasant hump!
Cheers.

The way I play bass, I`ve a hunch you might be right.
