I have a nicely put together "Classic Vibe" Squier Strat. These guitars are tremendous value for money both in finish and build. This one is a Candy Apple red with aged parts and a lovely amber tinted r/wood neck. I have owned and gigged USA and Japanese strats and this guitar impresses me greatly. The upgrade of the p/ups would really be the icing on the cake. I was recommended Bare Knuckle p/ups but at 160 quid a set when I only paid 225 quid for the guitar (new) didn't seem the right thing to do. Is there some decent p/ups on the market that would be better than the stock ones fitted that don't cost a fortune ???

I have to say, I am a fan of Bare Knuckles and have some in my strat...

But if you're looking to go a bit cheaper Iron Gear are supposed to be very good for the money. Or you could go for something like Catswhisker pickups- they're not as well establish as BKP but all handwound in the UK and supposed to be great. They're only cheaper because they haven't built up a reputation yet

I recently put a set of Bill Lawrence Keystone pickups in my Telecaster- cost me £60 and sound considerably better than the stock pickups. Bill makes a Strat set for similar money. There's a wait while the pickups are built for you though...

Thanks guys, you've given me some good options there. I will certainly be looking into the brands you have mentioned. I wish I had the funds for the Bare Knuckles but with a gigging son wanting this and that I have to give him priority (lucky little sod). (My Dad never spoilt me like that)

Kolibri, that is very ineresting indeed. The tone quality is good but its the output I would like to boost. Perhaps I will do a bit of research into the subject just in case I lay out cash and discover no real improvement. Thanks for your information.

I fitted a Tonerider Hot Classics Nickel for Tele (TRT2N-NK) @ £27.49 from Dangleberry music to my Telecaster, higher output, great tone. Recommended.

I bought some Wilkinson Vintage jobbies at about £30 for the set (if I recall) for a project guitar. Chucked 'em in my old Kimbara Strat copy today and love 'em.
