Hello Everyone

I'm new to this forum so hope I'm following etiquette ok

I'm looking for a new valve amp

I currently have a blackstar artisan 3o head and 2 by 12 cab and it is way to loud even on the 10 watt setting. It has a gorgeous clean tone but will not overdrive until it gets to a volume that drowns the rest of the band out.

I'm looking at Laney Lionheart 20 or jet city 20 head. Has anyone experience of these amps. I have an old 70s strat and an ibanez and play mainly rock covers.
All the valve amps I have owned have been way to loud when I get the tone I want except for my champ 12 which annoyingly is not loud enough! If it was 50% louder I would never have bought the blackstar

Can I suggest you go to some shops to see them and ask a member of staff to get the best sound at the lowest volume. Try it yourself then.
These guys should be experts and be able to get sounds that you would'nt.

Thanks Jacktlad, I'd never buy without trying in a shop, was just wondering if anyone had any experience of these 2 amps or anything similar that I might add to my list of possibles

There is a Blackstar 15W Artisan model which might be up your street.

Or again, I'll suggest trying the Laney VC15- it's really really good... \:\)

Others to look at might be the Vox AC15 or Blackheart Handsome Devil. Both are 15w 1 x 12 combos that should meet your needs, sound-wise.
I am also thinking you could use an attenuator to lower the output of your Artisan but still push the valves into the tones you want. That would give you the versatility of letting it rip on the occasions where you want that extra.

I got lucky really, one of my mates had an amp made for him, 18 watts, based on a marshall design, he has lent me it, I've gigged it and played it at home and it seems to be fitting the bill
