I have been waffling on about Cort quality for years and years and years - about 15 now!
Whilst thousands of customers have experienced the quality of Cort Guitars in that time it has always been a struggle to get people to believe in what is without a doubt the most important producer of acoustic, electric and bass Guitars in the Far East.
Cort either do or have made Guitars for Ibanez, Fender, Schecter, Tanglewood, Avalon and right now there are some developments I literally am not allowed to talk about - but needless to say these guys are light years ahead of the myriad of random factories that make Guitars for so many of the brands you see in the market.
So - enough of my waffle, follow this link to the Cort site and watch ALL of the available video (there is a lot of it!).
Watch and learn!

And then let me know what you think...
(and try and ignore the American, overly slick voice over - he means well).

I watched the electric guitar video. The combination of hi-tech computerised processes and individual craftsmanship was very impressive. I like the way that there was one person taking personal responsibility for 'building' the guitar at the end. With a potential output of 1 million Guitars a year it's no wonder they can be competitive. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the Les Paul copy.
The Godin family is still my first love but I'm very tempted!

Thanks for the feedback on the video. Yes its really impressive stuff.
Cort is what it is - incredible quality for what you pay and I love the honesty about it. If you want a fantastic guitar under £500 then Cort has to be on your hit list and I bet these new Les Paul style models will be fantastic. I mean look at the Z42 and Z44 - they are awesome at £249 and £399 its just they dont look exactly like Les Pauls so they dont get looked at quite so much. Now they have the more full on copy you have best of both worlds - quality and the styling people like.

Well I watched them.
I like Cort Guitars very much but I don't beleive the bull about the final set-up and quality control. Whoever put the strings on my acoustic (sfx-10 so not a cheap one) was not very good at it and had set the top E and B in the wrong place on the bridge. Not a problem to sort out (I bought it anyway) but not perfect like the rest of the guitar appears to be.

I think this says more about the dealer you bought it from than the guitar!

So the dealer put the strings on? I know this happens with cheap "spanish" Guitars because I have seen another shop-keeper doing it. I think the fact that I bought it instead of a similar priced Martin and a similar priced Takamine ( which I could find nothing wrong with construction wise but the Martin had a poor tone) says a lot for the guitar.

Well my point is if you buy a guitar from a shop you would like to think they would know enough about Guitars to sell you a guitar with the strings in the right order.
You can understand maybe a mix up in a factory that can produce up to 1 million Guitars a year but not a shop selling a customer a guitar.
Just shows they never even looked at it - hence my comment.

I've never understood why guitar shops DO take responsibility for quality control. I mean, it's nice that some do but it's not something I (personally) automatically expect them to do. I do expect them to put righr any problems I have with an item (be it a guitar, pedal, etc.), but if I bought a guitar that I later found to have a problem on, I'd be critical of the manufacturer - not the shop. Again - just my perspective.
I guess the bottom line is though - if you're going to buy a guitar from a company that potentially churns out a million a year then, you're going to get the occasional few "bad 'uns"? Law of averages and all that..?

Sorry I didn't make it clear, they were in the right order, just that the grooves were in the wrong place. The E was too close to the edge of the neck, the B was parallel to the E but E and B were not parallel to the rest of the strings leaveing a big gap between G and B on the bridge. Anyway, that's just a detail, but when I'd been round all the shops in Nottingham and Derby looking (and, more importantly, listening to Guitars) and found one I liked I wasn't going to let details stop me!
