I guess that's the problem with feedback... There is no standard, or norm or good or bad.... My view on this; There are no absolutes, re-assuring definites, gold standards to achieve, because they are just someone elses definition of the shades of grey that we plunder in order to interact and communicate with each other.
3 decades in fine art ed and 10yrs as a teacher make me quite open to giving my "artistic" (or personal) opinion or point of veiw.
Dave is spot on, you can only please yourself, if others like it, then great you have connected to part of their aesthetic appreciation. But by doing so you will ultimately alienate just as many.
This what art has been consistently challenging and very clearly so in the last 100 yrs or so; Duchamps urinal, Carl Andre's pile of bricks, even the jackson pollocks drip paintings. Unfortunately we live in a culture that tries to dictate and quantify our tastes, so that we all like the same thing.
We are far more intellegent than that, but most people choose to conform to the "norm", because we all want to be part of our culture. However, all the people that create our culture and create the exciting and stimulating developments...generally work outside of (and to some extent shun) the "norm". Most times mass media picks up on some watered down version of what was great.
If you ever feel down about critisism (and from your comments above you've had fairly kind but really encouraging feedback), remember that for some of us you are challenging our perceptions of who we are and what we appreciate...because it goes a whole lot deeper than entertainment, it can challenge identity itself.
But if you just want to be loved by everyone...hmmm, you can't (please all of the people all of the time...etc).
And I'm saying all this because I'm possibly worse at taking critisism than you are, even though I don't believe it to be "bad".
The wormhole does go deeper still...but I've added my little bit...seeing as you haven't asked me to stop. And as a last aside; I have tons of respect for your music and your skill and talent, otherwise I just wouldn't bother commenting. Keep up the good work.
Mike
