Hi all,
I've recently fallen victim to the dreaded Win32 Zbot.g virus which has plagued my laptop - making it pretty much unworkable (hundreds of pop ups, unable to connect to the internet.....not to mention the security risk).
So - I've decided to invest in some "proper" antivirus software. I did have the free version of AVG installed and updated, but I still somehow managed to get caught.
Can anyone recommend a decent piece of software?? I found this which seems to be a really good deal..

Thoughts anyone?

We use ESETNOD32 on our work computers, as recommended by our technical people
http://www.eset.co.uk/Home
Its claim is never to have missed an in-the-wild virus in over ten years testing and we have had no problems whatsoever in three or four years using this package

Avoid any of free AV's unless cost is a real issue. You need to consider how many PC's/Laptops you're looking to protect as many of the commercial AV's licences are for for more than 1 PC.
Last year I was using Norton 360, and when the update licence expired I changed to Kaspersky as I found a good offer for that. In my opinion Norton is the better product, they've got the 'bloatware' issues sorted and the interface is very slick. You have to know what you're doing a bit more with Kaspersky.
Here is a link to a recent AV comparative . virusbtn
Some AV's use multiple 'engines' licenced from over vendors, so in theory you get the 'best of breed' file scanner, email scanner and web scanner.
Sometimes you can get some good deals here software4students if you are student, or the parent of a student.

Hi all. Thanks for the replies and advice. I went with the Norton - as it was good deal. However, having installed it, I still can't get online. I've just posted another thread about the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. Apols in advance for poor typing - but I'm having to use a phone to post....!

+1 to Lurcher's comment's.
I also recommend Malwarebytes Anti-malware great for detection and cleaning - including those fake AV's which seem to slip by other products. Don't know about their paid-for products, but on the strength of their free one I'm getting more and more tempted!
