Ive had my second lesson and my tutor says he is happy with the way im progressing which is good for my confidence, im happy too :).
Ive been given the birthday song to learn which is good because its my daugters birthday soon, ive also been given some Bob dylan music to learn, new strumming patterns, some blues licks and A minor pentatonic scales, im still doing my first weeks homework as well mainly because i want to be able to play it all without fault before i send it to my folder.
I think i will have my third lesson and have a break until ive nail everything im working on before i move on.

Thanks for reading and the good advice.

Don't break after lesson 3. It is so easy to fall by the wayside. Book lesson 4 for a months time or whatever time-scale you feel appropriate, but book it before you leave.

Thanks Jocko
Thats good advice.
I will book lesson 4 for 2 weeks after my third. I just want to get everything clean before i move on. It makes sence to be sure ive another lesson coming rather than start to struggle through problems if they arise.

Thanks again

Had my 3rd lesson and it went well i think, ive booked my next one as advised by jocko for a fortnights time, im still struggling with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers on the G chord, im sure it will come, but everything else seems to be coming together nicely, im getting on well with my tutor which helps, he keeps giveing me home work which is good, i should have all my last 3 weeks home work nailed by the time my next lesson comes round.
My home work this week is,more scales(G pentatonic major, A natural minor and E blues scale) Bass strum, practice Arpeggio a song in Arpeggio and another Bob Dylan song with some new strum patterns, im doing about 1 - 2 hours practice a day, some early in the morning, a bit at lunch time and more late in the evening.

Thanks for reading

Its a shame really that i have had to stop haveing lessons, i got to my seventh lesson and my tutor was trying to teach me from a book i already had, i was abit unsure about how i would benifit from this and he told me it was his method so i went along with it, the eighth lesson came and ended there was more discusion about why i was paying to learn something i could teach myself, the nineth came and it was still from my own book,im not sure if i done the right thing in saying i didnt want any more lessons as to start with i think i took a backward step although i have caught up now on my learning, do you think i done the right thing questioning why i was learning from my own book and in the end cancelling my lessons?

Cheers

Rich

Rich,

Don't forget there's more the 1 teacher out there.

Ask around and find one who passes on his knowledge and skill.

The guitar Handbook by Ralph Denyer has been mentioned once or twice on this forum before and I believe it's been found to be very useful to more than one of us myself certainly included.
If you enjoy teaching yourself as opposed to being taught by another person I'd have to recommend that book to you.

Clearly the first guy you tried ran his course and you should explore your options when it comes to finding a replacement for him,as said above there's more than enough teachers around and you should be able to find the right guy for the job.

If you are not happy with a teacher then it is best to move on. No matter how good a teacher is, if you don't gel it's just a waste of time and money. That's the same for guitar, driving, karate, French, whatever you are trying to learn.
