Hi Lotus, not a lot seems to be happening on the forum this evening, so I thought I'd just put in my 2-pence worth. Really I agree with everything the guys have said, and we have all been through the stage where you are training the brain/fingers to move in the way we want. It's remarkable really, but somehow it does just get better with time if you keep playing, so yes you absolutely will get it right, and one day people will be asking you how you make it look so easy!

One thing I would say is be fussy while you are in this learning stage. Insist on your fingers fretting the notes cleanly, no buzzes or sloppy finger placement. Make sure all the notes of each chord are sounding cleanly. It's better to go a bit slower, and get this clean technique right, than to go fast too soon, and get into bad habits. Once you have the good technique happening, and have got into the habit of doing things right, the speed will start to come anyway, and you will sound that much better.

Another tip is when looking at any chord change, try to figure out the most efficient way for the finger to move. So don't necessarily lift all the fingers off the strings, then put them down in their new positions. Sometimes a finger can stay in the same place, or just move to a different fret on the same string for example. Or just move across to an adjacent string, staying on the same fret. Look out for these sort of things - they really do help, and again the brain will start to do these things automatically with practice.

Hope some of that helps a bit at least, cheers!

Well here is a 'secret'. Wait for it... Most guitarists are lazy okay economic with how they play chords to be more accurate and will only use as much of a chord as necessary, to get the sound they want. We call them partial chords. Go to you tubery and look for stuff like that.

Sorry for the thread hi-jack, but Oldjono can I just ask what the red guitar on the left in your avatar is?

Megi. It's a 1970s Antoria. (Original Japanese Ricky 330 copy) I've had it rebuilt with gold hardware and just one vol and tone knob with a three way switch. It's a semi and sounds like a Gibson Birdland. It is not for sale but if it was I would expect about £1000 and probably be offered £10. Such is life... I paid £10.00 for the neck and body and ebayed stuff to buy the bits and a couple of friends helped fix it all up. I use it live in local Blues Jams and it's just lovely to play.
