Hi Ape, if you read through this thread you can see that I am the only one who has done this "DIY" style fretjob (the idea did not meet with much approval!) - the exact details are posted on the other "Fret levelling" thread started today. But I was very happy with the outcome on the telecaster I did first, and have since performed the operation on 2 more Guitars, a Shine semiacoustic I bought recently, and an Ibanez (see the "Ibanez Spruce Up" thread for a few pics from that one.
It has been worthwhile in all cases - definitely the action can be set very low on these Guitars, and they seem to play very smoothly indeed. You do have to lower the string slots in the nut a little also to get the action/playability just right. I'm not claiming that this is the last word in fretjobs, but I do think it gives very good results if done right, certainly better than some jobs I have paid good money for other (supposedly experienced) people to do.

sorry if I didn't post in the newest thread,I'm terrible at forum etiquette I hope you folks can bear with me.

In the new year a local friend who runs this website http://www.repair2guitar.co.uk/pages/repairs.html is going to refret my bound neck Epi SG400, he reckons on £120.00 all in. I've played it nearly everyday since 1991 and have done countless gigs with it. I reckon for another twenty years anticipated life the fee works out at £3.00 a month. Cheep or what? Saves me faffing about with pliers, saws, files, rulers and a heep of head scratching.
PS. You can see Lee working on my 70s Fugijen Antoria that we rebuilt last yaer in the photo on the link page.
