No point making life harder than it needs to be. The additional cost of doing the third pickup also has to be considered of course!

True, although the cost would be offset by a cheaper scratchplate as the 2 pickup option leaves me free to get one of those flamed maple ones... I was thinking the bridge might be a headache. The only 12 string ones I found (not counting a Rickenbacker one because I dont like it or the price)are a Gotoh hardtail one or a Les Paul style with stop bar. I think I'm going to try with the Gotoh saddles on a Tele ashtray type to simplify things. So long as I can find one with 6 saddles and strings both through the bridge and through the body.

I found the Gotoh 12 string bridge in Stew Mac's site and on Ebay - it looks quite nice - 6 strings through the body, and 6 anchored at the back - I think that's a good idea. Might not work so well with a tele scratchplate I imagine, although you could perhaps use some sort of mounting plate for the bridge pickup which would fill the space normally occupied by the tele bridge pickup unit.
I'm just thinking aloud here - I know it's not my project, I just find this stuff interesting! It's amazing how these sort of considerations crop up as soon as you get into the specifics of a project. Also, remember if you do decide to go to guitarbuild, they can do non-standard features on a guitar body, so they could probably accommodate any changes needed, like for a non-tele style bridge for example. You can alway send them parts you intend to use as well, so they can make sure things will be just right. It adds to the time involved, but can be worth it I think.

Maybe not a bad idea to adapt the tele bridge with Gotoh saddles though...

Still thinking about your 12-string tele bridge Bry! Looking at the Wilkinson one I have on my tele, I reckon it probably would work as a 12 string bridge already. You wouldn't have individual intonation for all 12 strings, but it does have 6 string loading holes at the back, as well as the string through body holes. The saddles are just brass without any pre-cut string grooves or anything, so you could decide on your own string spacing, and maybe make your own string notches accordingly. Just a thought!

Not a bad idea and maybe the only way I'm going to find one in gold. I wish I'd dealt with the bridge before I bought two sets of gold tuners now.

Another thought, there is a tele bridge available in gold on Axesrus's website with 6 saddles, plus holes at the back, and for string through body: see Axesrus vintage tele bridge w/ 6 saddles... so maybe you could fit the gotoh bridge saddle to that to get better intonation - Obviously adds to the final cost though. I reckon gold is going to be good though, especially if you're going for one of those Gilmour scratchplates!

Actually that might be tricky, as the gotoh saddles would have to be in the right alignment...
