hi all, I'm after some advice with something. My name is Mat and i am a guitarist. I have been using my first 'play' amp for a few years, but i am now looking into gigging, so need something somewhat more substantial. the only problem is, i'm not quite sure what sort of size/spec to get...i'm a bit of a novice to this. Thanks, Mat

One important thing is not to go mad and get anything too big and heavy, especially if you're getting a valve amps. Valve amps sound better if they're really driving hard, so you're better off having a lower power amp which has to be turned up high than a great big stack barely ticking over.
Also, remember you have to carry this thing up stairs and potentially longish distances to get into venues. You may well live to regret that stack when you're making 3 journeys to the car instead of one.
I think it's a good idea to get something that has an emulated line out to go straight to the mixer. This is really useful as you can then get the guitar into the folback mix easily.
I personally gig with a Marshall TSL602 2x12. It ticks all the boxes except the one about weight. At a hefty 23kg it's a rascal to move around, but a set of castors has helped matters no end. I did have a DSL401, 40W 1x12, which was much lighter, but didn't have the emulated line out, I don't think, but sounded great and I did gig with it a couple of times.
What sort of budget do you have?

As Mr Scream above...what budget, what guitar are you using and what style of music?

I also realized that the style and the guitar matter a lot. As The Tiggs says the style could be the second important feature when you select one.

Oh well, never mind. The answer is still the same. There are only two amplifiers:
1 Vox AC30 2 Marshall 50W or 100W Master Volume.
