Princetons- the solid state ones are Princetons in name only- not worth it IMO. The valve ones are stunning but £800+

HRD- crazy loud but lovely if you can crank it.

Blues Junior is loud enough for small venues (under 100 people) dirty, but I wouldn't want to use one clean for anything involving a decent drummer. They also sound far better cranked than clean imo. They can definitely be a little bit boxy because of their small size.

Peavey Classics are great- a very similar amp to the Fender Blues Deluxe. If you really like it I'd hold out for one of those unless you can go try a VC30. The Laney is intended to sound closer to a Vox AC30 than the Classic. Depending on your tastes that may be good or bad!

In your price range if you can stretch too 500 go for a bogner alchemist 212. In my opinion for that price range it's one of the best i stumbled upon this on the internet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H2pvbrxRZY

Went to a store in glasgow and just to give it a try and ended up walking out with one. \:\) i love it. \:\)

Well guys just wanted to say thanks for all the advice. I've actually purchased a secondhand Blues Junior which I'm collecting later today. For rehearsals and small gigs it'll be ideal. Especially as the lift at our rehearsal room is broken! The kind of music we play is not full on rock or blues so I won't be trying to thrash out chords all the time, rather minimal guitar lines.

Anyway, I'm going to get using it and see how I get on. It may lead me to have to upgrade again, but I'll have something to trade in. Looking forward to the Fender tones.

Hmmm. My Blues Junior has started giving out a very loud buzz. This happens without my guitar or lead connected and with the volumes on the amp turned all the way down. It wasn't like this when I picked it up.

As a starting point, what would you look for to ascertain the potential problem?

How long does the amp need to be on before it makes this buzzing noise? I wonder if a valve needs replacing.

I am no engineer but it seems strange to me that it makes the noise with the volumes down. What is there after the final (master) volume that could make a noise?

The cynic in me wonders if this is why the previous owner sold it?

Doesn't have to be on for long before it buzzes. I'm sure it happened with the volumes down, but will double check. What's best way to check the valves?

Like I say, it didn't happen when I picked it up from the seller. Hopefully it didn't used to be a problem. The details provided said no buzzes.

Could be anything from a dry solder joint to a valve going west, The best way to check valves is by handing it over to an amp repairer. The voltages are huge so don't try poking around inside with anything other than a rubber mallet.

Seriously it'll hurt you big time if you're not sure about what you're doing, which, by your questions so far, proves my point.

Take it back and get a refund if you are not prepared to fork out some repair cash...

Buzzing with volume turned down normally points to a power supply smoothing capacitor failure.
Unless amp was bought for a ridiculously low sum and a costly repair would still see you with a bargain, I would take it back.

I've contacted the seller to see if this was a problem before. Waiting to see. May see what I can do. If not, I know someone who may be able to help with fixing the amp. Oh the joy of Ebay.
