I recently bought some new pedals. I have played around with them allot. But i'm not sure what order to put them in. If anyone knows what would be the best for these pedals let me know it would be appriciated. As follows;

Tubescreamer TS9
Holy Grail reverb
Boss dd3 delay
Boss noise suppressor
Micro Pog
Boss Chromatic Tuner
boss fv500 volume pedal
BIG MUFF!

I run these through Bogner alchemist 212 and Fender 52 re-issue. I get some great sounds but i think i need a better order for my pedals.

Welcome Ben.
The standard seems to be wah-wah first from the guitar signal, followed by overdrive/distortion, then modulation effect (including chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo and finally delay.
Where in Scotland do you stay?

Generally speaking there is no set answer to this - and it depends on your own preference, the sort of music you want to play. The guidelines to the order can be along these lines:-

distortion and eq : opinions seem to vary which order is best for these - but distortion is supposed to be early in the chain as feeding modulated sounds to an overdrive the sounds can get a bit wacky.

wah after or before distortion - opinions vary

some people say delay at this point - others say delay later on with reverb

modulation - chorus, flangers, etc

reverb

boost
.................................

ermm .. compressors recommended to go early in the chain but precisley where is a matter of differing opinions .. volume pedals between modulation and reverb .. octave dividers, harmonisers and anything which creates extra notes later in the chain than overdrive to avoid it getting confused by multi notes

oh, and tuner first if you have one.
................................

Now I'm all confused!

I don't have a wah wah. My Boss ME-5 multi-effects unit has them running in the order Jocko describes.

I would go something like this, with the very clean stuff first, then the distortions and lastly the delay stuff

Boss Chromatic Tuner
boss fv500 volume pedal
Micro Pog
Tubescreamer TS9
BIG MUFF!
Holy Grail reverb
Boss dd3 delay
Boss noise suppressor

But experiment with switching the order of the pedals within each group except the tuner which wants the cleanest signal of all.

I would say Tuner > Compression > Wah > Distortion/Overdrive > modulation > Delay/Reverb > Noise Suppression

Of course another consideration - and I think this is the most important - is how can you actually physically fit them on the board and keep it looking really groovy \:D

For me?

Tuner (with buffer) -> wah ->compression -> dirt (heaviest first, generally) -> boost -> delay -> modulation -> reverb.

But that doesn't mean other options can't sound good- sometimes a modulated signal fed into a fuzz pedal can sound brilliant, sometimes it's horrible.

If I had one I'd put the POG in front of everything except the tuner, and I'd put the noise suppressor in a cupboard tbh. If you really need it I'd put it in front of the delay, otherwise you'll risk losing some of your quieter delay trails:

Boss Chromatic Tuner
Micro Pog
Boss fv500 volume pedal
Tubescreamer TS9
BIG MUFF!
Boss noise suppressor
Boss dd3 delay
Holy Grail reverb

Sorry but I beg to differ. To allow delays and reverb to finish their job and fade away gently and naturally you would normally want to put a noise gate before delay and reverb. I say normally as Phil Collins' big drum sound was built on a massive reverb followed by a noise gate to cut off the long reverb.

Does anyone make a device which allows you to put them in any order you like - and then switch between orders on the fly. Is it something someone should make - a guitar pedal re-orderer. Could do a basic one with a whole bunch of relays and a diode matrix.

Thanks from the help folks!

I went for jockos order it seems to be giving me just what i need for my band. I've always used an ME-50. So it was always simple to build sounds. But it's sounding great for pop-rock style songs.

I'm from glenrothes.
