Clearly a big endorsement for Stonebridge too, given the research you've done. Cheers for that (Richard will be pleased too I would think) - if I ever spend some decent money on an acoustic (probably will one day) I will be sure to give them very serious consideration.

Thanks Megi, I did think that the mcilroy was going to do the trick, but I guess i always had a slight doubt in the back of my mind...I think it was partly the price, its was about £300 over budget, so it made me think I have to feel that i can't be without it. So the mcilroy didn't quite make me feel like that, but I am sure that a lot of people would love them. Ultimately this particular Brook was 800 cheaper, which wasn't really a consideration but certainly comes in handy when I just preferred the guitar anyway.

Those stonebridges really are excellent Guitars. i played a Faith limited edition made by furch, but it wasn't anything to write home about, but there own designs really are good. I guess to a certain extent the Stonebridge was brand new so wouldn't have had chance to open up so maybe it wasn't a fair test. Certainly if I hadn't known about brooks i would probably be playing a Stonebridge right now.

I know what you mean about posting clips of your own playing, I am similarly reticent about mine! But jesus you did well with that Brook though, it's obviously just something else - and as you say, already played in and matured, and 500 quid under budget as well - well played that man! I can only imagine what playing a guitar like must feel like - you must have a smile on your face...

Well done on your choice!

I wonder ... when I bought my Takamine 1997 Ltd Edition (in 1997), it sounded really crisp and clear compared to anything else I tried. Some years later I became conscious that its sound had changed. Matured. It was and still is crisp and clear but had acquired a warmer aspect to its sound.

So, I wonder whether it was unfair to test a new Stonebridge against an already matured Brook. I am not suggesting you made the wrong decision but anyone else looking for an acoustic should bear in mind the maturing process.

lester - I do agree with you there, 1400 for a brand new Stonebridge of that quality - wow. Great guitar, and more than stood up to competition of Guitars of £3000.
I certainly feel from my investigations that European Guitars have a different feel and sound to the US ones. just seems if you want to buy a 'brand' (martin taylor etc) you will pay a lot more to get the same or similar quality. I set a budget of 2k, and I was looking for a guitar that would be with me for life, and i have found it. To a certain extent the price wasn't the guiding factor, i would have gone up £500 if a guitar had the appeal, lucky for me that it turned up for a lot less!

On the maturing factor, my martin, which you can see in the last pic, nearly got the flick a few years back, its now 9 years old, somewhat battle scared and sounds brilliant, a lot better than when i first bought it...Also my playing is significantly better too;-)

cheers

Chris

I had a feeling you might end up with a Brook. They're phenomenal Guitars, and that one looks great!
