Hi guys, this is what I'm trying to achieve.
electric guitar into pc.... get required sound using software amp modelling, guitar rig or pod farm...then out of pc into/out of amp.
Is it doable? easy tricky hard?
Going into pc is possible I know, its the coming out of pc and through my amp that my question really relates to.
thanks
Dave

I'm no sound engineer or electrician (far from it!) but I can't see why it wouldn't work.

I'd replace the pc speakers with the amp using suitable cabling.

Are you introducing the amp simply for extra volume because I'm thinking the pc/audio interface should have plenty of distortion and other tricks available to it, thereby making the amp superfluous to requirements.

Good luck \:P

If your amp has a CD/MP3 in socket just connect a lead from PC audio out ( usually black one of the red and black sockets) to the CD/MP3 in.

I guess I was really thinking about not overloading my pc speakers. It's only for bedroom 'twanging', nothing serious....

Using the PC as, effectively, an FX pedal is a nice idea. Problem might be in latency. I have done this and overcome any problems by using 2 sound cards/chips. One for the input and the other for the output. I think most sound processing programs can be set to different ins and outs. Or invest in a full duplex card (most are half duplex to the AC97 standard).

I use a Behringer UC6102 guitar interface with guitar Rig 4 and Reaper. No latency and bypasses soundcard.

Well, I have spare soundcards, one of them an M-Audio, so I can try both methods if need be. The interface I'm going to use initially is this:-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280718485023?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

.....which as you can see is not a 'real' interface, but we'll see how it goes... \:\)

Did you configure your PC for it?

Did you need to download a driver?

Chances are its not plug n play...?

Though it does say it is - audio devices often need to be tweaked since the PC has built in mic and look to that for input. Did a device recognised pop up open?

Well, first of all I just plugged the cable in and waited to play.....pc recognised cable and said it had installed drivers and it was ready.
I didn't realise I needed to launch an audio recording prog....duh!
Anyway, after being told that by the seller, I did just that ( I tried audacity, kristal, reaper,) all to no avail.Apparently there is a light on the usb plug that lights up when a signal is passing through it...not a flicker.
Seller was very good, tried to talk me through stuff, but nothing worked, and said to send it back for a refund. Havn't sent it yet tho, so any last minute suggestions would be very welcome.
thanks
Dave
